Education is a life process that occurs at school, at play, in the home; it is happening everywhere. At Mt Mee, we seek to co-operatively involve students in learning skills that will enable and encourage them to be life-long learners.

A curriculum framework has been established and units based on Science and SOSE strands have been planned using a three year cycle.

The EEC focuses on the Early Years Curriculum.

All units at the school are integrated to include English, The Arts and Technology. Planning for HPE and Mathematics are integrated where possible but some outcomes are implemented in separate programs so that the student is exposed to all areas of life skills.

Students with learning difficulties are supported as individuals in small classes and specific teaching groups in each class. Students with speech problems are assessed and supported by the visiting speech pathologist. She also organises the programs used by teacher aides to support these students.

All classes at Mt Mee State School involve multi-age groupings of two to three chronological years allowing teachers to group students within the class structures and address individual needs. This method encourages peer support and cross age groupings to enhance teaching and learning inside and outside the classroom.

Additionally, the two- to three-year grouping falls under the responsibility of one teacher or teaching team, allowing the teachers and students to develop a solid working and learning relationship.

Such a rapport produces a more long-term and deeper understanding of the student’s strengths and weaknesses, while also enabling stronger connections with parents and families.

The depth of study in twelve week units demands that student develop higher level thinking skills and this is a conscious goal of the curriculum framework - the process of learning how to learn.

This framework is overlaid with an understanding of multiple intelligences and learning styles; the focus of the last three years being a tight knit inclusion of these factors into our planning, implementation, assessment and reporting.

For the past few years, we have participated in Swim Fun, an excellent program at Dayboro Pool. This program teaches students in small groups with swimming coaches, and runs for eight weeks in Term 4.
