Reporting Student Absences

Same day Reporting of Student Absences
Earlier this week, the report when a child is missing: Remembering Tialeigh – a report into Queensland’s children missing from out-of-home care was released and the Queensland Government has accepted a recommendation from the Queensland Family and Child Commission that the Department will implement same day notifications advising parents/carers when a child has an unexplained absence from school.
As such Education Queensland’s procedures have been updated to require same day notification for unexplained absences. Mount Mee State School has decided to utilise a manual system for reporting absences to parents. This will involve teachers continuing their practice of calling the roll at 9am every morning.
Any absences will be reported to Yvonne by 9:15am and Yvonne will commence contacting parents who have not advised the school regarding absences. Ensuring the smooth implementation of this important initiative will require cooperation form our whole school community. Please look out for information in our communique regarding this implementation. Practices can be made more efficient by:
* Ensuring that your child is at school every day by 8:50am when the bell rings.
* Contacting Yvonne by phone or email by 8:50am if your child is going to be absent.
